Parent & Family Visas: What You Need to Know

Parent and family visas allow eligible relatives of Australian citizens, permanent residents, or eligible New Zealand citizens to join their loved ones in Australia, either temporarily or permanently. To qualify, applicants typically need to meet the balance of family test (meaning at least half of their children live in Australia), have an eligible sponsor, and satisfy health and character requirements. Some visas, like contributory parent visas, offer faster processing at a higher cost, while others may involve longer wait times. Choosing the right visa pathway depends on your family circumstances, financial situation, and whether the applicant is in or outside Australia. Getting professional advice can help ensure all requirements are met and your application is prepared correctly from the start.
